5 Ridiculous Manicure Trends We Won’t Be Trying in 2018

2018 Nail Trends

Everyone loves a good manicure right? And ever since Instagram became a thing it’s all about having the most unique claws to wow your followers and keep those likes rolling in. But are some of us taking it too far?

Whilst most of us openly love a good long coffin nail (even though it can split opinion!) we think many of us would agree that kebab skewer nails, or President Trump nail art is taking it a bit too far. That said, we’ll always try our best for you if that’s what floats your boat…

Here are 5 manicure trends you won’t catch the Nailista team rocking this summer:

The Donald Trump Manicure

055c3a58ee177839c43d2f9423a24be3

Seriously, we’re not cool with this. When has this man every been a style icon, with his botched toupe and orange fake tan? But we guess politics is cool these days, so if you want your favourite political bae recreated on your nails, long as they’re a good guy/gal we’ll be happy to oblige.

Kebab Manicure

Been on a serious night out? Downed copious amounts of double vodka red bulls and now you’re sitting at the bus stop without shoes pondering a maccies? Don’t you just wish your nails had some sort of delicious shish-kabobed meal attached to them? It’s nail art, but it’s practical too right?

Nah, we’ll give this one a miss.

Flared Nails

e9e6b48ecfa7e57b88de178334195f01

You’ve seen Square, Coffin and Stiletto, now try… Flared nails!

Or maybe not. We’re al for some sophisticated quirky nail shapes, but this is a step too far. Sadly these scoop-like nails look a little like the acrylics you’d get for a tenner at the salon down the road, but they do actually require a lot of skill on the technician’s part to sculpt this complicated shape.

However, unless you’re a lady of leisure with your own personal servant to wait on your hand and foot, we don’t recommend replicating this look.

Bubble Nails

No, believe it or not, what you are seeing above is not a mistake, it was constructed with full intention! This super thick acrylic is wrong in more ways than one, and people are actually following this crazy trend. Would you dare to dabble?

Hairy Nails

We don’t know what to say. We guess it’ll be warm and cosy in the current UK weather, but we’re not all about looking like we’re ready to change on the full moon. Sadly there is no fluffy stuff in the Nailista nail art boxes…

2018 Celebrity Manicure Trends to STEAL!

HealthBenefits ofOranges

We’re all for coming up with your own unique manicure ideas by experimenting with the hoards of glitter, nail art supplies and polishes available at Nailista, but sometimes we just can’t resist recreating a celebrity trend! The best thing about celeb nails is that they’re totally easy to replicate by a trained Nailista; it might be impossible to ever afford a Kardashian’s wardrobe, but you can certainly have A-list nails.

Here are some of our favourite celeb nails as shared on their Instagram pages!

kylie jenner

Kylie Jenner’s Baby Announcement Nails

Nude and square nails are a celeb staple, they’re effortless and chic, and go with every outfit. Kylie chose to enhance her manicure with her baby’s initial in contrasting silver. Want to get the look? Book in for the Mini Jet Set Acrylic Nails and 15 minutes of nail art to give your technician time to monogram your talons.

Blake Lively’s Snakeskin Nails

It looks super glam, but it’s actually quite quick for a Nailista to recreate! We recommend getting this look by booking a Gel to Go for long lasting gel nails, and 15 minutes of nail art. Why not try another animal skin look such as leopard, giraffe or tiger.

Rita Ora’s Sparkling French Nails

Book in for the Mini Jet Set Acrylics with a french finish to get this super glam, festival-ready look. French never goes out of style, and many celeb manicurists are taking it to the next level with glitters, chromes and unusual colour combinations – why not come up with your own unique take on french?

Margot Robbie’s Sailor Nails

Who says nail art is only for long acrylics? Here Margot Robbie proves you can have cute, detailed nail art on short nails. This look can be replicated in both normal polish and gel, but we recommend a gel finish to make all the hard work worth it! Why not treat yourself to a full, luxury manicure with our Two Weeks on Shoot gel treatment for £29? Then just add a 15 minute nail art add on!

Race Day Style – Nail and Outfit Ideas from Nailista

Easter Guide (1)

With Ascot having just released a gentle reminder about their dress code, we can be sure that race season is well and truly on it’s way! The races calendar has quickly become a prominent fashion event as such as it is a sports event, and we’re sure plenty have already started planning their outfits for Aintree, which is just around the corner!

IMG_20180326_100754_210

Sadly many of the events host just as many fashion faux pas as they do elegant attire, and it’s prompted many of the venues to reiterate rules on their dress codes. Each year even traditional venues such as Ascot review their dress code to ensure they have made their rules on the latest fashion changes; famously they recently added jumpsuits to their dress code due to their increasing popularity!

If you’re having trouble planning your outfit for a day at the races, look no further! With branches in Chester, Manchester and the Trafford Centre we’ve plenty of experience advising racegoers on their outfits for the local events, and we’ve also picked out a few suggestions for the perfect matching polishes, so you’ll be as manicured as the racecourse grounds.

Nailista’s Race Day Style Ideas

Race Season 2018

The colours we have chosen to go with these race day outfits are some classic favourites at Nailista. Majestic is a gorgeous deep burgundy, we think it goes with everything! Vortex Vixen is the perfect pinky-lilac nude, and Flashing is a stunning silky metallic red.
If you’re in doubt about which colour to choose, bring along a photo of your race day outfit and our Nailistas will be happy to help you find a complimentary tone!

Spring Fashion and Nail Trends for 2018

Spring 2018

Call us eager, but we love spring and spring nail colours! It may still be occasionally snowing outside, but there’s no harm in a positive outlook; we’re already seeing many of our clients choosing pretty pastels for their manicures as a way to escape the gloomy grey weather, and we’re encouraging it.

The thing is, pastel colours are actually a perfect transition from the end of winter too, they go with so many outfits as they’re quite neutral, and can look elegant in any weather. We’ve taken the hard work out of choosing your favourite pastel shade this month.

Americana

Americana
Is it really any surprise designers have felt an American influence on their designs this Spring? With the impact Trump has had on the world this year and last, some designers have paid homage and political commentary to the big USA. Either way, we love old school Americana; to work the style, pair vintage varsity jackets with boyfriend jeans, or go country with cute gingham dresses. This style is comfy and cosy too, and giving us some serious sunshine vibes.
To channel this look in your nails, go bright blue with Artistic’s “Aim to Chill”, or ask our techs to paint some pretty stars and stripes in subtle pastels.

Pretty Prints

Prints

The days of prints clashing are long over according to the SS18 catwalks, designers are all for wearing polkadots and florals together, with lashings of textured fabrics to finish the look. To rock it, scour your local charity shop for pretty silk scarves for a much cheaper alternative to Dolce and Gabbana’s floral scarves, and wear with as many prints as you like – to break up the clash, style with bold, black accessories.

To wear the look on your nails book in for some floral nail art and match with bold, solid glitters. Artistic’s “Imperial” is a good choice as a base.

Neons

Neons
Neons require a touch of bravery, but if the fashion editors are right, everyone’s going to be wearing them in spring, good thing is we have loads of neon brights in Artistic nail colours – in fact “Polka Dottie Hottie” is one of our firm favourites.
If you’re not up for wearing a 80’s rave-esque rainbow, choose just one of your favourite neon tones and contrast with a bright matte lip colour.

How to Have The Ultimate Hen Party in Chester

Chester Hen Nights

It’s nearly wedding season, and you know what that means – it’s already hen party season! Chester has always been a popular hen night destination, and you’ll often see hens parading the streets during race season. However, this is a guide written by local experts for those who wish to see what’s off the beaten track, here’s our round up for some of the best and most unique hen night ideas in Chester!

Where to Stay

Oddfellows Chester

Chester has a lot of unique and chic boutique hotels that are befitting brides to be, if you’re looking for the ultimate decadence, you can always stay like the queen at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel. For those who prefer the non-traditional and quirky however, there’s Oddfellows, which gives all the best Alice In Wonderland vibes with it’s glamorous interiors.

What to Wear

Cheshire Set

Channel the “Cheshire Set” look by taking cues from the wardrobes of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. A fashionista is spoilt rotten among Chester’s shops. Head to the Grosvenor Centre for all the major high street brands, such as Topshop, H&M and Quiz, or pop into Browns department store. Explore Bridge street and Watergate street for semi-luxe brands such as Reiss and French Connection and find plenty of coffee shops for a pit stop along the way (We love the Baristas and Cinderbox).

Daytime Activities

25990528_321764981565164_1458446101_n

It’s time for a pamper! Get your make-up done at the MAC counter in Browns before heading down to Nailista for a luxe manicure or fresh set of nail extensions. Afterwards have a quick cocktail break at The Alchemist or grab a “light” lunch from Hanky Panky Pancakes.

Hanky Panky Pancakes

Where to Eat

Chester has all the usual famous chains such as Las Iguanas and Coast to Coast, but if you want to eat like the locals do try the institution that is Hickories; based down by the river they serve up delicious American cuisine. If you’re in the mood for a more glamorous afternoon tea type affair, Mad Hatters Tea Room offers an endless display of glittering cupcakes, including a great selection of vegan and gluten free treats.

Mad Hatters

If you’re exhausted from all that shopping however, you might prefer to get a Deliveroo to your hotel from Mama K’s, this lady offers the best of her homemade, authentic American recipes and is not to be missed!

Where to Party

Prohibition Chester

Chester has a good selection of clubs, but those in the know love the cocktail bars of Watergate street; for Gin lovers there’s Craft and Company, and those who prefer their cocktails sparkling and covered in rainbows might prefer Kuckoos, where the braver among us can sample a Northern Zombie at their own risk.

If you prefer a chilled out atmosphere, you might like to seek out the secret bar Prohibition, head up some stairs near the art gallery on Watergate street, knock and await instruction. The new bar The Boardroom is also a must-visit if you fancy yourself a cocktail buff.

Whether you are spending a long weekend in Chester or popping in for a night on the town, don’t forget to book in at Nailista for pampering for you and the girls!

2018 Colour of the Year – Ultraviolet

ultraviolet

Pantone is possibly one of the most influential voices in fashion trends, the company helps designers from all disciplines; from fashion to furnishings; and graphic design to gardening; decide on colour palettes. That means their Colour of the Year is a bit of a big deal.

Purple vibes

The colour is decided by careful trend analysis; experts keep up to date with the latest fashions on the street in London, Paris and New York, and are the first to spot colours emerging at Fashion Weeks around the globe. They consider a whole range of other factors too, such as if a certain travel destination is becoming popular, or what artists are showing new collections, experts even take note of colours used in the latest tech releases.

Just take a look back on past colours Pantone noted; in 2017 the colour was ‘Greenery’ (remember the hype about palm leaf prints?) and in 2016 it was ‘Rose Quartz’ (Millenial pink, anyone?) and before that, it was ‘Marsala’, that deep oxblood red we saw on all the must have designer bags.

2018? Pantone are backing ‘Ultra Violet’, a rich, neon purple. Expect to see it trickling into the high-street when they launch their spring collections.

Pantone Colour of the Year

Featured: Artistic Pin-up Purple

If you want to be ahead of the fashion pack, it’s time to start thinking of Cadbury purple nails! We have plenty of choice when it comes to purples at Nailista, from parma-violet lilacs, to deep, dark, glittering indigo, but if you want a good dupe for Pantone’s Ultraviolet in a gel manicure, we recommend Artistic’s ‘Pin-Up Purple’ or CND Shellac’s ‘Purple Purple’.

Thinking of booking in for ultraviolet nails? Pop over to our treatments page and choose your favourite pamper package, then book online here!
